As a young man in Czechoslovakia, Andre Steiner designed work camps for the Nazis, hoping the local Jews would be better off if they cooperated. but when Jews began being shipped to concentration camps en masse, he helped devise a bribery scheme to save them.
Holocaust Heroes
Andre Steiner, the last known survivor of an unsung group credited with saving thousands of Jews during the Holocaust, turned 100 Friday. The Bratislava Working Group used cash supplied by foreigners to bribe Nazi officials into keeping scores of Jews from being sent to concentration camps.
